Power and Precision for Serious Vertical Jigging

The Shimano Grappler Type J Spinning Jigging Rods are engineered for the demanding world of heavy vertical jigging, delivering exceptional power, precise jig control, and the backbone needed to battle trophy-class gamefish in deep water. Built with Shimano’s advanced Spiral X Core and Hi-Power X blank technology, these rods provide the perfect balance of sensitivity and raw lifting power required to work heavier jigs and control hard-fighting pelagics from depths exceeding 300 feet.

Advanced Blank Technology

• Spiral X Core Construction: Triple-layer carbon fiber architecture eliminates blank twist and maximizes power transmission for aggressive jigging cadences and powerful hooksets
• Hi-Power X Reinforcement: Strategic X-wrap carbon tape in high-stress zones prevents blank deformation under extreme loads and increases lifting power by up to 10%
• High-Modulus Carbon Fiber: Responsive yet powerful blank delivers exceptional sensitivity to detect strikes while providing the backbone to turn big fish away from structure
• Progressive Power Taper: Fast-action tip section provides precise jig manipulation and bite detection while the powerful mid-section and butt deliver maximum lifting authority

Premium Components for Extreme Conditions

• Fuji Titanium SiC Guides: Lightweight, ultra-durable frames with smooth inserts handle the rigors of heavy jigging with thick braided line
• Fuji Reel Seat: Heavy-duty construction with reinforced hoods provides rock-solid reel mounting under maximum load
• EVA Split Grips: Ergonomic, non-slip handles provide superior leverage and control during aggressive jigging sessions
• Reinforced Guide Layout: Strategically positioned guides maintain optimal line angle for vertical presentations and distribute stress evenly across the blank

Built for Heavy Jigging Dominance

Whether you’re targeting giant amberjack on deep Gulf wrecks, working speed jigs for yellowfin tuna offshore, pursuing trophy yellowtail on Pacific seamounts, or battling powerful grouper and snapper in extreme depths, the Grappler Type J delivers the performance serious vertical anglers demand. The powerful blank provides the leverage to work heavier jigs with aggressive sweeps and the authority to drive hooks home on hard-mouthed species, while still maintaining enough sensitivity to detect subtle takes and bottom contact.

Type J Spinning Advantage

The Type J spinning configuration offers distinct advantages for heavy jigging applications: superior line management with high-capacity braided line, effortless long-distance casting when searching for structure or working drift patterns, instant bail engagement for lightning-fast hooksets, and the ability to quickly adjust drag settings during powerful runs. The balanced design distributes weight efficiently, reducing fatigue during extended vertical sessions and letting you maintain aggressive jigging cadences all day long.
